Josep Ministral (1945)

He was born in Borrassà, into a peasant family. At the age of two, the family moved to Figueres. Working in the establishment of the poet Pilar Nierga, he interacted with artists such as Joan Sutrà, Joan Sibeques and Diego Torrent. In 1968 he entered the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona.

During these years he combined his artistic training with theatrical and musical activities. In 1972 he studied engraving at the School of Fine Arts in Olot and moved to live in Llers. In 1975 he attended the International School of Contemporary Mural Painting at the Monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès. He traveled to several European countries to study impressionism.

He was a founding member of the Grup 69 d'art de Figueres. Together with artists from this group, he painted the mural dedicated to Salvador Dalí, “5 visions dins l'espai Empordà” in 1984. In 1985, and in collaboration with the musician Jaume Cristau, he won the Barretina prize from the weekly magazine “Hora Nova” in Figueres, for his artistic career.
