With a career forged between classical exigencies and contemporary exploration, Jean David Saban transforms engraving into a profound and silent language. Trained at the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse and a disciple of the master René Izaure, the artist has developed a rigorous and sensitive work over more than three decades.
Internationally awarded for his lithography and present at prestigious biennials such as those of Clermont-Ferrand, Cadaqués and Budapest, Saban has created more than 300 etchings that bear witness to a stubborn and poetic look at the world. His prints, with a suggestive and refined force, explore gesture, matter and the passage of time with an intensity that transcends technique.
He complements his practice with acrylic and oil painting, opening new plastic paths that dialogue with his graphic work. His universe is a journey between memory and form, between shadow and light.
Jean David Saban
Born in Toulouse in 1959 and after classical studies at the Toulouse School of Fine Arts, Jean David Saban followed the teachings of the master engraver René Izaure for 3 years.
In 1982, he won the international lithography prize “La Presse d’Or” in Paris. At that time, he created 11 original lithographs that were distributed on the American market.
